Tiivistelmä
In comprehensive-school stage of life, pupils need to be prepared, basically, knowledge and social integration for life later on. Pedagogy of imparting knowledge have long history of reforming, nowadays, study program have being gradually blurred distinction between subjects in early comprehensive school. There would no longer be subjects, instead, pupils are getting flexible personalized learning from classroom to social environment . Next step, which is conducted later but simultaneously and in parallel, confguration of study space between groups and agegroups have also being blurred and opening towards community sharing. That reformation could facilitate integration between pupils and social contexts, rather than restrain specifc activities in specifc age-groups.
Based on that idea, Multipurpose Building – Sammontalo is a part of a project to modernize the social service network in western part of Lappeenranta city. That also aims to foster the dynamic relationship between school community and wider society. The thesis targets to bring a thoughtful solution for Sammontalo and its surrounding urban planning. By discussing how to organize confguration of physical learning environment, the thesis are explaining the space design of building. In addition, the thesis will also discuss how to improve identity of central zone and enhance social interaction through future urban fabric design.
Lappeenranta is also committed to promoting sustainable development by improving the environmental impacts of its operations. Therefore, besides following purely architecture targets, energy saving are also put under consideration in the project by studying low-carbon emission material and life-cycle power supply for the building. Above all, the ultimate goal of Sammontalo is a sustainable project from building to urban design which has to guarantee a sustainable development of central zone of western Lappeenranta
