Tiivistelmä
In the early 2000s pulp mills have still had their distinctive odour that is caused by sulphur-based compounds from cooking chemicals and wood reacting together. How-ever, nowadays new mills and most of the old ones are being equipped with an odorous gas system. This means that all evaporating odorous emissions into air from fiber line, cooking, evaporation and causticizing are collected and led to different types of incineration processes.
This thesis will focus in defining design factors related to odorous gas piping and especially defining issues related to their cost estimation. The need for this thesis had arisen from overrun in certain odorous gas project cost estimations and the issues were pin-pointed to originate from piping quantity and pricing estimations. In this thesis those issues will be examined and MS Excel based tools will be created to assist in piping cost estimations and design.
First some technical background from pulp mills and odorous gases are provided for the reader and later problematics related to pricing and costs. Then identified issues from current pricing and design processes are reviewed and answered by building pricing and process estimation tools. Finally, the results and suggestions for future improvements are discussed.
