Tiivistelmä
Globalization, increasingly competitive and fast-changing business environment and the constant development of technology are pushing manufacturing companies to actively develop not only their own performances, but also their suppliers. The suppliers need to meet the requirements of quality, delivery and flexibility to protect the needs of the final customers. Today, companies are making huge investments in systems and processes to improve suppliers’ quality performance. For successful supplier measurement an organization must have well defined performance indicator measures and qualified performance measurement system.
This thesis provides an action research with a literature review for the development of supplier performance measurement system and process for the case company. The target of the research is to develop a global, standardized system and process. In addition, to organize a prototype and pilots for selected business units and to develop a global implementation plan according to current state analysis are part of the scope.
As a result, a technically valid system for measuring supplier performances is developed. This includes changes made to an ERP system and an outsourced reporting platform of a case company. The monthly measurement process of three globally measured, most important supplier key performance indicators was partly automatized by system development and therefore made more effective and reliable. The pilots executed in chosen business units in Europe validated the core functionality of new system and process, and gave multiple enhancement and development targets for future research. The results of this research offer a base for global process change of supplier performance measurements, with the aim to increase the validity of the results and to reduce the time employees in the case company use for creating these measurement results.
