Tiivistelmä
The purpose of this Master’s thesis is to be a prestudy for possible solutions to enable wireless video surveillance. The variable bit rates and delays in wireless networks causes problems when smooth and continuous video streaming is a target. The thesis at the first presents typical methods how to compress digital video when the goal is to achieve lower bit rate consumption. Next the thesis presents typical problems of wireless net-works and technologies which are used to overcome the problems.
Next the different wireless solution are compared to each other. In addition research papers about wireless networks, video quality and video compression are reviewed. Lastly the thesis contains a testing section which explains why and what techniques were chosen for testing. There is explained what was tested and what methods were used. In conclusion results of the tests are analyzed.
Unfortunately schedule of the thesis and creation of test environment did not match together and test result of 802.11 WLAN solution is not included in the thesis.
