Tiivistelmä
Product safety compliance in a global environment is ever-increasing and more complex. Therefore, it is essential to systematically manage product safety related requirements throughout the project-lifecycle.
This thesis defined the EU-level product safety requirements for an entire business unit product portfolio. The research also assessed the current state of product safety management within delivery projects and further, best practices were included into each phase of a standard delivery project. The research was conducted by analysing documentation, interviewing the key individuals within the target organization and by observing the everyday practices within the organization.
Developing product safety management in delivery projects requires firstly the recognition of current state practices. Also by strengthening the communication and awareness organization-wide will further improve the situation. By identifying the critical processes and concentrating on key measures, such as risk analysis and product documentation, the organization will comply with majority of requirements.
Like any other safety-related issue, the key to success starts with management commitment. Ensuring sufficient resources and by setting ambitious targets for product safety, and especially by communicating effectively, the organization starts to systematically manage product safety requirements.
