Tiivistelmä
Globalization and fierce competition have led to challenging and complex supply chains in pharmaceutical industry. Supply chain operations generate large amounts of data and information which can be utilized by data analytics to solve challenges in the supply chain management. This research studied how to utilize data analytics and visualizations in supply chain management. A case -study was executed in cooperation with pharmaceutical industry organization. Organization faced challenges from a new complex supply chain that was created by transition to new manufacturing site. The research studied how to support decision making in transition to new supply chain with data analytics and visualizations.
The case study was executed by observing and participating in case organization’s activities and interviewing employees. Based on observation and interviews, a general view of the new supply chain was defined. Additionally, critical data and data sources of the supply chain functionality were defined. These observations were processed in visualization software that created various reporting dashboards and views. These dashboards can be utilized in supply chain management and decision making.
Results of the thesis were introduced in two parts. First part discusses actions that are required before the actual transition period and second part focuses on actions after the transition period is started. Suggested actions were based on needs detected in the case organization, theory, and visualization software’s features. For final suggestion, a five stage checklist was proposed, that can be used in transition period supply chain management. Especially, a visualization framework for future supply chain management was designed, which displays supply chain data in a clear and feasible form.
