Tiivistelmä
Today, electronic devices are wanted more versatile and use time longer with one charge. This is the reason why electronic devices need a high capacity battery and charging should be easy and simple. Most manufacturers use the same connector as charging port, so different manufacturers' devices can be charged with other manufacturer's charger. That is why it is important that the interoperability of the device and the charger works.
In the development of electronic devices, one of the most important phase is functional testing before releasing on the market. The target of this thesis work is to develop a measurement system which can be used to test the charging of mobile phones. The measurement system will measure interoperability of different manufacturers’ chargers for mobile phones. Voltage and current of the mobile phone battery and charger are measured during the test. Charging can then be analyzed from the results via graphs and calculations.
This thesis work consists of theoretical background, which explains the charging of lithium ion batteries, different chargers, USB Type-C from the perspective of power and background and theory of the measurement setup. After theoretical background, a description of the design process, manufacturing process and verification and corrections. Lastly, a conclusion of the work.
