Tiivistelmä
There has been increasing usage of powerful information technologies in infrastructure construction field. There are number of software solutions from the past few years which have been making the process of construction smoother. Land surveying is one such process which this work focuses on through an Android application. The thesis proposes a tool which has the ability to replace the traditional land surveying methods for checking height of the surface layers of a road or rail by utilization of BIM models. There were three important considerations kept in mind when developing this application. Firstly, the application should be simple enough to use by anyone on the work site. Secondly, the results provided by the application should be fast enough. Thirdly, the application should fully utilize the potential of the external GNSS rover and provide the maximum possible accuracy of the rover.
This work also presents the results of the interviews conducted with project managers/engineers of different organizations in Finland and Sweden. The interviews were aimed at knowing participants views on the Android application, various challenges faced by them, skill level in some construction field related technologies and tools used by them during work. The mentioned areas were explored as the thesis was not only aimed at developing a software solution but was also concerned on exploring all the factors which affect the usage of the software tools in construction companies.
