Testing is a crucial part of software engineering, it takes about half of the software project´s efforts. That is why techniques to diminish testing time have been developed. One of them is test automation.
Automation can be focused for example on test case selection, test execution or analysing test results. Automation can fasten and improve testing process only, if test cases to be automated are simple and well-defined.
Optimal test cases have to be selected in a way that automating the cases is as easy as possible. This demands a lot from the test case selection techniques, not originally developed to generate cases for automation.
This pro gradu evaluates test case selection techniques from automation point of view. A multinational software company called in this study "SoftWComp" and its integration testing environment is studied and the selection of the best test case selection technique is done like in this company.
None of the test case selection techniques is good enough to be the only test case selection method. That is why a combination of four test case selection techniques is recommended to be used in SoftWComp´s integration testing environment.
