Tiivistelmä
Jet ventilation (JV) in the airway during general anesthesia provides the endoscopist with an unabstructed view on a quiet operation field but preserves the anaesthetist's ability to control the patient's ventilation and oxygenation. Despite 40 years of clinical use avoidable complications still appear and discredit JV, which is also a last option to save a patient's life in airway emergencies.
The European Society for Jet Ventilation innitiated the present papers, which were collected to cover basic aspects of jet technology, knowledge of different techniques, to present experience (different opinions included), and to increase awareness of possible complications and how to avoid them. The papers cover jet technology, JV technology, monitoring, safety, and the clinical use of JV for endolaryngeal procedures, treatment of airway stenosis, and its use in airway emergencies.
