Tiivistelmä
As more distributed energy resources connected to the grid, due to electricity demand ris-ing, grid operators needed to maximize their asset ability. This urgency to integrate large amounts of energy require accurate hosting capacity determination and suitable congestion management strategies. This thesis answers what are the cause of congestion, what method could be used to determine hosting capacity, how congestion management strategies able to improve the hosting capacity. The thesis explored Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) technology as an option, comparing with physical reinforcement of a real 110 kV network. DLR enables grid operators to determine the real time ampacity of the transmission line using weather data and conductor behaviour, rather than a fixed conservative static rating.
The result show that the studied corridor able to host one wind farm with its current static rating. As the number of wind farms increased, so is the energy push into the corridor, DLR able to uplift the ampacity of the conductors due to favourable weather conditions and increase the hosting capacity of the network. DLR buy 97.8% of the congestion relief with about 12% capital of the cheapest reinforcement solution. Enable the grid operators to realize the value of flexibility when the hosting capacity is increase, enable distributed energy resources connec-tion, and reduce the curtailment hours. DLR shows potential for 110 kV network where distrib-uted energy resources connection is being established and still in the planning phase, help DSO enable these connections and realize flexibility value.
