Performances in virtual borderlands

Abstract

In this article, I examine material documenting the Gaza genocide, published across social and traditional media. Streams of videos and images form curated assemblages of performances that algorithms shape and direct towards viewers. These assemb-lages construct an experience of life in the midst of genocide while also revealing the potential of performance as a form of resistance. My article moves within and across the interstitial spaces and interfaces between war and peace, story and lived reality, and material and virtual performance. I ask what kinds of performances are formed in these spaces, and what potentials for resistance hybrid, boundary-crossing performance can bring forth
