Tiivistelmä
Enterprise Resource Planning systems are complex pieces of software that are used to manage the daily operations of a company. These systems provide a way to standardize business processes and centralize data within the company. The implementations of these systems are complex projects with many variables contributing to their success. Due to the complexity, the usability and user experience in ERP system implementations can prove challenging for users.
This thesis explored the most important factors contributing to the success of ERP implementations. These factors were recognized in literature as so-called Critical Success Factors (CSF). Due to the complexity, the usability aspect of ERP systems can prove challenging for its users. Usability and user experience aspects impacting the implementation of ERP system were also investigated, with the addition of models for the acceptance of technology and how the adaptation happens in the users during IT events like the implementation of an ERP system.
The experiences of the users in the case implementation were studied with the help of interviews. With thematic analysis, six themes regarding the user experience in the case implementation were identified from the interview data. The perceived usability of the case ERP system was investigated with a System Usability Scale (SUS) questionnaire. The calculated SUS score from the study was poor. The thesis discussed possible reasons for this with presented theory and identified themes, concluding that negative emotions and insufficient training could have contributed to the poor score.
The thesis also provided suggestions for future implementations in the case company based on the findings. These included the importance of training and scheduling of the implementation as well as its evaluation. Evaluation of future implementations and the overall usability of the system were suggested as future actions. Toiminnanohjausjärjestelmät ovat monimutkaisia ohjelmistoja, joilla yritykset hallitsevat päivittäisiä toimintojaan. Näiden järjestelmien avulla yritykset standardoivat työprosessejaan ja hallitsevat yrityksen dataa. Toiminnanohjausjärjestelmän käyttöönotto on monimutkainen projekti, jonka onnistuminen riippuu monesta tekijästä.
