Tiivistelmä
This article will address the history of Ibero-Romance philology and linguistics studies at the University of Helsinki in the twentieth century. The text will focus on the work of the pioneers of Finnish Ibero-Romanistics whose work was important for the creation of the first chair of Ibero-Romance philology in 1981. The works of Oiva, Johannes Tallgren-Tuulio, Eero K. Neuvonen and Timo Riiho will be commented on, and the last part will present the role played by some linguists who, without having held an institutional position within the framework of Ibero-Romance philology, worked on topics related to this discipline, thus keeping alive the interest in Spanish philology. Portuguese and Catalan.
