Tiivistelmä
By the beginning of the 1960s, the Finnish women had already been strongly involved in politics, yet by the end of the decade, they still constituted a so-called small minority in Parliament. Women’s magazines featured only individual female ministers from otherwise male-dominated cabinets. In the 1972 parliamentary elections, the proportion of women grew to one-fifth of those elected, which increased the visibility of female politicians and the journalistic interest directed toward them. To this day, researchers have been interested in how commercial women’s magazines have reported on women’s strengthening position in political decision-making. The analysis highlights the methods by which Anna magazine, through its journalistic choices, has shaped the understanding of the role and status of female politicians and the gendered nature of state politics, thereby becoming part of a broader political publicity.
