This review also discusses factors for improvement and outlines the exploration of innovative technologies and comprehensive techno-economic assessments to bridge the gap between advancements and real-world implementation. Its highlights include global efforts for phosphorus recovery, the need for synergetic approaches, an understanding of the difference between efficiency and performance approaches, required innovation in the future, and the environmental and economic implications.
