Tiivistelmä
Policymakers, practitioners, and scholars are increasingly interested in the evidence-informed policymaking (EIPM) approach to address complex societal problems and enhance the efficiency of policy measures. Insufficient physical activity (PA) is a growing concern in Nordic countries, including Finland. Despite the implementation of various governmental strategies to combat physical inactivity, success has been limited. This chapter offers an overview of EIPM, with a specific focus on its application in the context of PA policies, and reflects on the findings within the Nordic public policy landscape in Finland. A database search was utilised to identify the current body of knowledge on EIPM in the field of PA policy research. The use of evidence in PA policymaking appears to lack systematic and transparent processes. Several political factors challenge its use in policymaking. The current dependency of EIPM on individual capacities should be addressed through systematic and transparent organisational processes. A realistic and feasible goal is to base policymaking preparation on the best available evidence.
