Tiivistelmä
Each year, thousands of individuals are registered as victims of human trafficking in Europe, with the actual number of victims estimated to be significantly higher. Hungary is among the most affected countries, with sex trafficking and labour exploitation being particularly prevalent. Victims who manage to escape trafficking may access support services to help their reintegration. The reintegration of trafficking survivors is central to anti-trafficking efforts and typically involves a comprehensive set of services, including financial assistance, housing, and psychosocial support.
This study aimed to explore the reintegration of survivors of trafficking in Hungary and to gain a deeper understanding of the main factors influencing the reintegration process. Furthermore, it sought to uncover how structural conditions shape the reintegration outcomes for survivors. The theoretical framework of the study draws on vulnerability theory and the capabilities approach. To address the research question, semi-structured interviews were conducted with professionals who provide assistance to survivors of trafficking. The interview data were analysed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that survivors encounter significant barriers in accessing psychosocial and healthcare services, and the limitations in financial support provided to both survivors and victim support organisations pose significant challenges to long-term reintegration. In addition, survivors' personal relationships and work prospects, as well as societal attitudes towards trafficking survivors play crucial roles in reintegration outcomes.
