Polynomial Stability of Coupled Waves with Weak Indirect Damping

Abstract

<p>We study the stability properties of coupled one-dimensional wave equations with indirect damping. We employ methods based on observability estimates for the undamped system to prove polynomial stability and rational energy decay for the classical solutions of the coupled systems. We present our results for two different kinds of indirect damping - viscous damping and weak damping.</p>
