Loss minimization control (LMC) for permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) improves the efficiency compared to the conventional id=0 and maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control algorithms. Implementation of LMC for electrified non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) such as wheel loaders, excavators etc. is challenging due to parameter sensitivity. To improve the control performance, LMC using a lookup table (LUT) approach is applied. Using flux and loss maps, a LUT of optimal operating currents is built which is then utilized in the machine control. Simulations are performed with typical duty cycles of a wheel loader in MATLAB/Simulink, and the results show that the proposed approach has comparable dynamic performance to id=0 control and higher efficiency than MTPA control.
