Tiivistelmä
Continuity of care is an essential factor for high-quality primary health care. A designated GP in a local health centre represents personal continuity of care. However, associations between the GP and adherence to medication have not been studied in Finland. We used data on previous study called Health and Social Support (HeSSup) and analysed whether a designated GP working in a health centre was associated with regular use of medication in various drug classes.<br/>Regular use of pain, blood pressure, cholesterol, asthma or allergy medication and use of vitamins, trace elements or natural products was associated with the designated GP for patients. We propose that Finnish healthcare should provide citizens who need regular medication a possibility to have a long-term personal doctor-patient relationship.
