Tiivistelmä
This thesis investigates memorable video game experiences. The main research goal of this thesis was to investigate memorable video game experiences and what elements were involved. The topic was studied through lenses of memory, game design and experience. Psychological viewpoints were utilized in examining the concepts of memory and experience. Previous studies were discussed in relation to game, and extended leisure experiences.
I gathered memorable video game moments utilizing an online survey. The data was gathered from students studying in Finnish universities and the data was analysed using Applied Thematic Analysis method.
The results revealed the multifaceted nature of memorable video game experiences. Previous studies had highlighted the role of play, but according to my results, experiences without the elements of play were equally as prominent in the data. As a result, a Game Experience Model was constructed to depict different layers of memorable video game experiences. The layers include external world, game, and inner world.
