Tiivistelmä
As technology develops, the tools used to manufacture the technology must also develop. The control system manufactured by the target company of this thesis is getting a major update in the near future. In addition to the control system, the target company manufactures quality control applications. These quality control applications operate in this control system. The current specification files used to make these quality control applications are decades old and do not work as intended in the new control system.
The purpose of this thesis is to start the software development process for a new tool to replace the existing specification files. The result of the thesis is a requirements specification, a functional specification, and a technology proposal for the new tool. In order to fully understand what is required for the new tool, the current process must be studied. The current process is studied by reviewing earlier research done in the company about the automation application delivery process. In addition to this, relevant employees are interviewed, and an ongoing project is observed. The current model will be studied, and improvements are looked for. With the help of the results of the current model, an ideal model is created. The ideal model is used as the basis for defining the new tool. In addition to the ideal model, a literature review of the mentioned subject areas is carried out to make requirements specification, functional specification, and technology proposal. The requirements specification is carried out by a process according to the literature review. The functional specification is implemented as user experience specification, so that it presents the functionalities of the new tool, and how a requirement is achieved for each view of the tool. For the technology proposal, the advantages and disadvantages of the chosen technologies are gathered, and these are compared with the specification. Based on these, the company decides about the technology and continues the development of the new tool.
