Tiivistelmä
Tämän tutkimuksen päätavoitteena oli selvittää kohde yrityksen materiaalinhallinnan ongelmat ja antaa parannusehdotukset löydettyihin ongelmiin. Tutkimus toteutettiin case-tutkimuksena, jossa haastateltiin materiaalinhallintaan liittyviä henkilöitä eri yrityksen toiminnoista aina hankintahenkilöstä tuotannonjohtajiin sekä perehdyttiin yrityksen aiemmin tekemään analyysiin materiaalihukan aiheuttajista.
Tutkimuksen teoriaosuudessa perehdyttiin materiaalinhallintaan Lean- tuotannossa.
The aim of this thesis was to find out the problems in material management and provide solutions to problems in the target company. This thesis was a case study where employees in different fields of the company were interviewed. The interviewed employees were in different positions in the company from procurement to production. The company’s previous analysis and reports of the problems in material handling were also investigated.
In the theoretical part of the thesis was focused on the material handling of the Lean management. For understanding the current state of the company's material management process from procurement to production was studied. The interviews were focused on to find out employee’s main opinions of the problems and the suggestions for improvement in material management process. The thesis also included observation and free-form discussions with staff regarding material management problems and suggestions for improvement. The results and conclusions are the last parts of this thesis.
There were various things that can improve the material management process. Selection and supervision of suppliers was one area for improvement in the material management process. Most significant area for improvement was manufacturing of the steel material into parts that did not occur at once. This was occurred a lot of extra work and material loss because a residual steel material was left to run between warehouse and production many times. In the study was found out that steel material should be ordered in the fixed size and pull controlled directly for the need of production. The material and parts should be also pulled throughout production. In this case the steel material is made in parts at once without any residual material. These actions would lead to a reduction in intermediate storage and material loss. In the company's internal practices was not familiar for all staff and subcontractors. Better training of the internal practices for staff and subcontractors is required to achieve better efficiency in materials management process. There were problems with the company’s information systems that if corrected would make material management much more efficient and it will reduce lot of unnecessary work.
