Molempien profiilien mukaisien tilanteiden ajalta kerätyn datan perusteella profiileja vertailtiin ja kerättiin tilastotietoa, jonka perusteella profiilien suhde toisiinsa saatiin suuntaa antavasti selvitettyä.
Lopuksi yhteistyökumppanin saatua rasitusmallin valmiiksi, tämä malli otettiin huomioon käyttöprofiileissa, jotta profiilien mukaisen käyttäytymisen ja kuormittavuussuhdanteen tarkennuksen lisäksi voitiin selvittää ajoneuvon käyttötapauskohtaisesti kärsimiä rasituksia. Vaikka itse digitaalinen kaksonen vaati ennemmin rasitusmallin, kuin profilointia, auttoi tämä työ edellä mainittujen yhdistämisellä tuomaan sisältöä ja perspektiiviä kaksosesta tehdyille tulkinnoille This study was conducted as a part of a project, that aimed for creating a digital twin about a problematic heavy off-road vehicle. The digital twin can be used to monitor the vehicle and its condition and need for maintenance. Monitoring a system allows more flexible maintenance planning opportunities. The digital twin can also be extended further to more specific and refined applications. One possible application could be for instance calculating and achieving some level of maintenance prognostics.
First goal of this study was to find an expensive, critical, obsolete or somehow problematic component or sub-system. The vehicle, which had that component or sub-system, would be the target of this study. Mapping the components was done by interviewing experts and browsing the company’s ERP-system for maintenance logs and for the traffic of stored spare parts. As a result, a certain vehicle’s front axle was chosen as the problematic component. The amount of bent axles was rather high in relation to the number of existing vehicles of this kind. In addition, replacing the axle is expensive and time consuming.
The target vehicle’s axle and body were equipped with several accelerometers. The critical area of the axle, that most often yields under excessive load, was equipped with few strain gauges. The vehicle was used to drive a set of performance tests while equipped with several sensors. The tests included several different kinds of technical situations, such as braking while turning and driving over a bump with all wheels, or by using only the wheels on one side. The tests were conducted on different terrain types, driven several times over and with varying intensity.
The data which collected from the tests was obtained by the company partner, which was assigned to create a strain model. The strain model describes the correlation between the behaviour or use of the vehicle and the stress that the vehicle’s front axle faces. In addition, there was an objective to find and model the correlation between the accelerations and strains. This will make it more simple and cheaper to monitor the front axles on a fleet level using only accelerometers.
So that the monitoring would be more meaningful, and the data could be understood and processed better, the chosen vehicle’s history data was studied. Based on the results, usage profiles were created. By using Wapice Ltd’s application and its graphical API possibility, data that was collected and stored to the server could be processed and used to create statistics. Based on the history data, two profiles were created: transitional profile and rehearsal profile. The relationship between these two was studied via comparing data and fore mentioned statistics. The statistics were gathered from the time periods from vehicle’s history, that fit one or the other profile based on their fitting characteristics.
Finally, after the company partner had finished the strain model, it was taken into account when refining the usage profiles. The final objective was to understand the behaviour of the usage of the vehicle and the nature of the strain, which the front axle faces during a use case or a specific profile. Even though digital twin itself would require the strain model more than usage profiling, this study helps to bring content and perspective to interpretation made of the digital twin in the future.
