Tiivistelmä
Membrane external-cavity surface-emitting lasers (MECSELs) are a young branch of semiconductor laser technology which have many aspects to be explored and improved upon. MECSELs may have the potential to achieve higher powers than non-membrane semiconductor lasers due to improved heat extraction. This thesis explores the behavior of a membrane structure with twelve quantum wells operating at approximately 680nm. Along with characterization, this thesis investigates tunability and how the use of various heat spreader options impacts laser performance.
