Tiivistelmä
The thesis project is a design based in Oulunkylä area, the place that holds the history of being an area with many villas. Located in the suburb and a neighborhood region to Helsinki, the area is predominantly built with residential buildings while rest of the area is built with industrial, commercial schools, sports arena.
The thesis research seeks to evoke architecture by means of a programmatic approach, believing that if incorporated into the framework of design process, the principle of unity and functionality would be hybrid to optimize the performance characteristics of activities in one role.
This thesis project programs to combines spaces in an unconventional way to improve the quality of life for the community users and increases flexibility of the space. The proposed community center pushes the idea of the hybrid building to the extreme to revitalize the Oulunkylä community.
The design tends to provide an architectural solution that aims to enhance the urban liveliness and user connectivity of the area. The design includes two building on either side of the road connecting the new tram way “Jokeri Railway line”. The addition of new commercial and business space will boost the economy of the neighborhood and provide job opportunities for the people. Additional residential space will allow the community people the chance of living and working within the same boundary. The workshop area for dance, music handicraft, the library space, the gym space provides extra hand to the existing site function for different age group people to hang out and share their knowledge and time with each other. The open terrace park and community center with workshop space will create an influx of visitors.
