Ydinvoimalaitoksissa tällaiseen onnettomuuteen on varauduttu hätäjäähdytysjärjestelmillä, sillä muuten jäähdytteenmenetysonnettomuus voisi johtaa vakavaan reaktorionnettomuuteen.
Jäähdytteenmenetysonnettomuutta mallinnetaan tässä työssä käyttämällä systeemikoodia Apros. Työn tarkoituksena on jatkaa Olkiluoto 3 -laitosyksiköstä tehdyn Apros-mallin validointia. Työssä tarkasteltava malli on tehty erityisesti jäähdytteenmenetysonnettomuuden mallinnusta varten. Mallinnettaviksi onnettomuustapauksiksi on valittu primääriputkilinjan kaksipäinen giljotiinikatko, paineistimen yhdyslinjan katko sekä paineistimen varoventtiilin ja sekundääripiirin höyrylinjojen ulospuhallusventtiilien yhtäaikainen avautuminen. Viimeisessä tapauksessa lasketaan myös pelkän paineistimen varoventtiilin avautuminen, jota voidaan käyttää varsinaisen analyysin vertailukohtana. Ensimmäisen tapauksen avulla tarkastellaan laskennan herkkyyttä numeeriselle vaihtelulle toistamalla sama simulointi useamman kerran. Toista tapausta vertaillaan laitostoimittajan analyysiin ja kolmatta kokeellisiin tuloksiin.
Suurissa vuototilanteissa Apros mallinsi erittäin hyvin onnettomuuden ilmiöitä. Tulokset vastasivat hyvin laitostoimittajan analyysien tuloksia. Toisessa laskentatapauksessa suojakuoren maksimilämpötila jäi selkeästi laitostoimittajan analyysin tulosta alhaisemmaksi, joka todennäköisesti johtui erilaisesta kriittisen lämpövuon korrelaatiosta. Kolmas laskentatapaus poikkesi jonkin verran kokeellisista tuloksista todennäköisesti koelaitteiston ja koejärjestelyn erojen vuoksi, mutta samoja ilmiöitä oli mahdollista huomata molemmissa tuloksissa. Ensimmäinen laskentatapaus osoitti onnettomuustyypin herkkyyden alkutilan pienille vaihteluille, mikä viittaa siihen, että joissakin tapauksissa laskenta on toistettava useita kertoja konservatiivisen tuloksen saamiseksi. Työn aikana mallista korjattiin joitakin virheitä ja siihen tehtiin parannuksia sekä tunnistettiin laajempia kehityskohteita. Kriittisen lämpövuon korrelaatio sekä pienemmät vuototilanteet kaipaavat lisätarkastelua. Mallista olisi lisäksi syytä korjata joitakin käytettävyyteen vaikuttavia kohtia.
To ensure smooth generation of electricity in nuclear power plants it requires paying attention to nuclear safety. Because of this an important part of nuclear safety design is to be prepared for different operational occurrences and accidents in nuclear power plants. There are many different types of operational occurrences and accidents, and these might be associated with very complex phenomena in terms of reactor physics as well as thermal hydraulics. For nuclear safety it is important to understand phenomena in different accidents and to be able to use computational models to analyse these accidents.
In this thesis loss-of-coolant accident is examined. In pressurized water reactor this means that the coolant leaks from the primary circuit into the containment. This leads to the depressurization of the primary circuit and the coolant starts to evaporate. In the reactor steam degrades the heat transfer from the fuel to the coolant causing endangerment of cooling of the fuel. Nuclear power plants are prepared for this type of accident with emergency core cooling systems since without these a loss-of-coolant accident could lead to a severe reactor accident.
A loss-of-coolant accident in this thesis is modeled using system code Apros. The purpose of this thesis is to continue the validation of Apros model of Olkiluoto 3 unit. The model examined in this thesis is made specifically for modelling a loss-of-coolant accident. The accidents chosen to be modelled are double ended large break of the main coolant line, double ended break of the pressurizer surge line and simultaneous opening of the pressurizer safety valve and the main steam relief valves. Also in the last case only opening of the pressurizer safety valve is examined which can be used as a comparison to the main case. Sensitivity to numerical changes are examined with the first case by repeating the simulation multiple times. The second case is compared to the analysis of the contractor and the third case to test results.
In large leaks Apros was great at modelling the phenomena of the accident. The results were very similar with the analysis results of the contractor. In the second modelling case the maximum temperature of the cladding was clearly lower than in the analysis of the contractor which was likely due to a different correlation for the critical heat flux. The third modelling case differed somewhat from the test results likely because of differences in the test facility and in the test itself but the same phenomena could be seen in both results. The first modelling case showed that this type of accident is sensitive to minor changes in the initial state which means that in some situations the case to be modelled must be simulated multiple times to get conservative results. During this thesis some errors were corrected in the model and improvements were made to it. More extensive areas for development were also identified. The correlation for the critical heat flux as well as accidents cases with smaller leaks need more examination. Some modifications that affect the usability of the model should also be fixed.
