Tiivistelmä
This study covers (de)securitization of the Polish minority in Lithuania. The significance of the research is supported by the growing complexity of relations between Lithuanian authorities and Polish minority related to the expansion of the language rights of the Polish minority. Moreover, the (de)securitization of Polish minority by Lithuanian authorities is an understudied phenomenon.

Methodologically, the research consists of two levels of analysis. First, the thesis relies on speech act analysis thanks to which it is possible to consider how the situation of the Polish minority in Lithuania is assessed by the Lithuanian authorities and politicians, representatives of the Polish minority, as well as the Polish authorities. Second, with the help of the content analysis of the mass media articles in the Lithuanian and Polish language, it can be possible to get a broad view on the studied topic.

According to my analysis, considering the problem of low proficiency in Lithuanian among representatives of the Polish minority as one of the main issues that need to be resolved, Lithuanian authorities are pursuing a (de)securitization policy regarding the expansion of the linguistic rights of the Polish minority. However, representatives of Polish minority are not satisfied with this politics and want to improve their position through the expansion of their rights. This topic should be included into the further studies to contribute to the mutual understanding between representatives of the Polish minority and the Lithuanian government.
