<title>User Perceptions of Digital and Service Features in Tampere’s Public  Transport : A Survey Study of the Nysse System</title>

<summary type="text">User Perceptions of Digital and Service Features in Tampere’s Public  Transport : A Survey Study of the Nysse System

This study evaluates the dimensions of service quality and smart mobility features of the Nysse public transport system in Tampere, Finland, from the perspective of its users. The study aims to answer the main research question: What is the users’ assessment of the current smart mobility attributes of the NYSSE public transport system? Specifically, it examines which features users evaluate most positively, which features receive the lowest evaluations, and the overall level of user satisfaction with the system.&#13;
&#13;
A quantitative cross-sectional survey design was employed. During Spring 2025, a structured online questionnaire was distributed through Microsoft Forms to 60 current Nysse users. The questionnaire measured users' perceptions across four key dimensions: digital travel information, service reliability, route coverage and frequency, and ticketing experience. The collected data were analysed using descriptive statistics, including frequencies, means, and standard deviations.&#13;
&#13;
The findings indicate that digital ticketing and travel information received the highest evaluations. The highest mean scores were reported for mobile ticketing (SMART application) (M = 4.50), clarity of digital travel information through the Nysse application (M = 4.43), and ease of travel card payment (M = 4.41). In contrast, service reliability received comparatively lower ratings. The lowest-rated features were transfer convenience between buses and trams (M = 3.70), handling of service disruptions (M = 3.73), and bus punctuality (M = 3.77). On the single overall satisfaction item, respondents reported a moderate to high level of satisfaction with the Nysse public transport system (SD = 0.99), while value for money showed the greatest variation among the individual item ratings (SD = 1.26).&#13;

The findings suggest that Tampere has made significant progress in developing digital public transport services that users perceive as clear, accessible, and easy to use. However, improvements are still needed in service reliability, particularly in transfer coordination, punctuality, and communication during service disruptions. This study contributes context-specific descriptive evidence from a medium-sized Nordic city, a setting that has received relatively limited attention in the smart mobility literature. As the study was based on a small convenience sample, the findings should be interpreted with appropriate caution and cannot be generalized to the wider population.

<title>Did a politician break a promise? : Automating election promise fulfilment tracking</title>

<summary type="text">Did a politician break a promise? : Automating election promise fulfilment tracking

Citizens in democracies need more visibility to what their representatives in politics promise and whether they act towards fulfilling those promises. When promises and their corresponding actions become more visible, it is easier for citizens to judge how politicians perform. This helps citizens make more informed voting decisions and gives direction for their own political activity such as directly contacting politicians or introducing citizen's initiatives for the parliament.&#13;
&#13;
This thesis helps political researchers automate parts of the promise-fulfilment evaluation. Automation scripts and Large Language Models (LLMs, AI) gather the evidence, and the human validates or rejects the evidence and makes their own conclusions on the fulfilment.&#13;
&#13;
The scripts followed the pattern a human would use in such research: 1) Extract election promises and actions from source texts, 2) list which actions are related to which promises, and 3) evaluate whether promises were fulfilled based on the action evidence.&#13;
&#13;
The pipeline extracted 523 promise records from four out of five government-forming party programmes and 383 evidence quotes. The pipeline created 444 valid links between the promises and evidence quotes. 135 promises reached an LLM-generated fulfilment verdict and 74.2 % of the promises were left undetermined due to a lack of linked evidence. On a 60-record stratified sample, two annotators judged 27/60 and 17/60 verdicts to be correct. Manual validation by the two annotators confirmed one case where a promise was acted against, reaching a ``negative fulfilment'' verdict by the large language model used in the promise fulfilment tracking pipeline. However, one case does not prove pipeline performance nor government performance.&#13;
&#13;
Doing such a workflow manually takes considerable resources, which might be a reason why not many academic research papers were found on political promise fulfilment during the thesis writing process. That is why this thesis looked for and found ways to add automation to the three steps with the help of AI. The conclusion of this thesis is that AI/LLMs can build a promise fulfilment tracking pipeline, but reliability of the promise fulfilment evaluation by a local LLM was not proven. This thesis did not create a reliable tool for tracking election promise fulfilment. Such tool will need a comprehensive manual validation of the source and output texts as well as continued development to increase reliability. However, this work shows that creating such pipeline is possible when reliability issues are resolved.

Antimicrobial resistance has emerged as one of the biggest threats to health in the 21st century across the globe, necessitating the need for antibiotic-free therapeutic approaches. Nitric Oxide (NO) releasing compounds have come to light as a potential alternative, providing broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity with a minimal risk of contributing to antimicrobial resistance. The aim of this project is to investigate the release of nitric oxide from a multifunctional theranostic bio composite consisting of 1393B20 bioactive glass, S-nitroso-N-acetyl-DL-penicillamine (SNAP), and persistent luminescent particles (PeL) to offer a targeted, antibiotic-free antimicrobial approach to overcome the limitations of antimicrobial resistance.&#13;
&#13;
The objective was to assess the photostability of SNAP in Tris buffer at different concentrations under different light (white light, UV irradiation, and dark conditions) and experimental conditions (pulsed vs continuous illumination, in static immersion and semi-dynamic) using UV-Vis spectrophotometry; to examine the effect of persistent luminescent particles integrated into 1393B20 bioactive glass on SNAP stability under similar conditions; to analyse the SNAP degradation byproducts; to quantify the release of NO using NO Analyser; to determine the antioxidant capacity of NO; and to evaluate the cytocompatibility of the system through cell viability analysis.&#13;
&#13;
The findings indicated that exposing SNAP to a light source effectively triggered its degradation and led to the release of NO, whereas SNAP exhibited optimal stability under dark conditions, highlighting the significance of light as a trigger for controlled NO release thereby validating its light-activated NO release capability. Quantification of NO using NO Analyser (NOA) revealed that release of NO was consistent with the activation of the light source. Antioxidant Assay showed that SNAP solutions have antioxidant capacity, with higher concentrations having higher total antioxidative capacity. Live and Dead assay revealed that cells exposed to SNAP under white light showed improved cell viability when compared to the cells exposed to SNAP under dark conditions.
