Tiivistelmä
Goal of this study was to find out whether target company's door design process can be transferred into a new design software and how efficiently the new software performs this process after the transfer.
The current door design process in the target company was mapped as accurately as possible and requirements for the new software were created based on it. Necessary changes were applied to the process and an effort to improve the efficiency of the process was made by removing excess parts of the process. After the modifications were applied to the process, an empty environment in the new software was used to test the process in the new software, similar tests were conducted to the current software as well.
Aim of this testing was to ensure that the new software had sufficient features compared to the current software and to make sure that it was able to perform required tasks. As additional material from testing, lead times of different process phases were collected from each software, based on these lead times a total lead-time was obtained for the process in each software.
Comparison between the software features and lead times was completed, which resulted to answer for the research problem.
As a result of the study, it was found out that the current door design process could be transferred to the new design software. However, this requires modifying the process practices to match the features of the new software. As result of comparing the lead times between software’s, it can be stated that the new software is more efficient than the current one.
