Pro gradu –tutkielma koostuu artikkelista ja yhteenvedosta. Tutkielman ensimmäinen osa on tieteellinen artikkeli ”Isien kiintymys vauvaan ja tyytyväisyys parisuhteeseen”. Kirjoittajia ovat TtM-opiskelija Sorri R, TtT Aho A L, TtT Halme N, TtT Hannula L ja TtT Kaunonen M.
Tutkielman toinen osa on yhteenveto.
(2008) Postnatal Paternal-infant Attachment Questionnaire (PPAQ) –mittarilla. Tyytyväisyyttä parisuhteeseen mitattiin Snyderin (1997) Marital Satisfaction Inventory -Revised (MSI-R) –mittarin kolmella osiolla.
This master’s thesis consists of an article and an overview. The first part is the research article “Fathers’ attachment to their infant and satisfaction with the pair relationship”. The writers are Sorri R, MSc student, Aho A L, PhD, Halme N, PhD, Hannula L, PhD and Kaunonen M, PhD.
The second part is the overview. The purpose of the overview is to describe the results of the study in detail. Due to the extensive nature of the instruments used and the fact that they were subject to licence, only a summary of the results could be published in the article.
The purpose of the study was to describe fathers’ attachment to their six-month-old infants and satisfaction with the pair relationship. A further aim was to describe the correlation between fathers’ satisfaction with the pair relationship and attachment to the infant.
The data were gathered in 2008 in the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa. Participants were 155 fathers of 6-month-old infants. Fathers’ attachment to their infants was measured using the Postnatal Paternal-infant Attachment Questionnaire (PPAQ) by Condon et al. (2008). Fathers’ satisfaction with the pair relationship was measured using three sectors of the Marital Satisfaction Inventory-Revised (MSI-R) by Snyder (1997). The sectors used were affective communication, problem solving and sexuality. The analysis used statistical methods.
Fathers experienced decidedly strong attachment to their infants. Spending time with infants brought them joy and satisfaction. Nine out of ten fathers tried to be as active as possible in caring for the infant. On the other hand, fatherhood was associated with a contradiction in sharing time between family, own work and hobbies.
The fathers were satisfied with affective communication and problem solving in their relationships; two-thirds did not experience significant problems in these sectors of their relationships. Most dissatisfaction in the pair relationship was related to sexuality, where 60 per cent of fathers experienced at least some dissatisfaction.
Fathers’ satisfaction with the pair relationship correlated moderately with their attachment to their infants. The more satisfied the fathers were in their relationships, the stronger was their attachment to the infant. Of the sectors of satisfaction with the pair relationship, affective communication and problem solving correlated most strongly with attachment to the infant. All correlations were statistically highly significant.
