Tiivistelmä
Pro gradu -tutkielmassani olen tutkinut Muu Maa Mustikka -projektin opetuskotia.
Teoreettis-metodologisena viitekehyksenä on maltillinen sosiaalinen konstruktionismi. Dokumentteja analysoidessani käytän myös faktanäkökulmaa. Olen teemoitellut aineistoni ja hyödyntänyt analyysissa sisällönanalyysia teoriasidonnaisesti. Useat pienet teoriat avaavat maahanmuuttajaperheiden kotoutumiseen liittyvää tuen tarvetta monipuolisesti ja lisäävät tutkimuksen luotettavuutta.
Tutkimukseni perusteella opetuskoti tarjoaa matalan kynnyksen palveluita asiakaslähtöisesti. Opetuskodin vahvuuksiin kuuluu sen sijainti maahanmuuttajavaltaisen lähiön keskellä, mikä helpottaa äitien ja lasten tulemisen opetuskotiin. Fyysiset tilat ovat normaalissa kerrostalossa, mikä luo turvallisen tunnelman ja mahdollistaa asumisohjauksen muun toiminnan ohessa. Työntekijät ovat asiakkaiden kumppaneita, joiden kulttuurisensitiivisyys auttaa luottamuksellisen suhteen syntymisessä. Opetuskodin naisten kerhossa opetellaan suomen kieltä tekemisen ohella.
Asiasanat: maahanmuuttajat, maahanmuuttajaperhe, maahanmuuttajanaiset, kotoutuminen, opetuskoti, ennaltaehkäisevä lastensuojelu, tapaustutkimus, projekti.
SUMMARY
In this master's graduate thesis I have reaserched Muu Maa Mustikka -project and its teaching home. Teaching home is a new holistic working method which aim is to support immigrant families with young children and especially immigrant womens integration to Finland. This working method does not try to replace the official integration work done by authorities. It helps families who have lived several years in Finland but are in need for guidance and information how to work in the society and in the service network. Within the group of immigrants there are people, who are not entitled to specific integration services. Women are also likely to get children and take care of them at home, which prolongs their integration to the society. Promoting the integration of immigrant women and young children has been targeted in political programs. The goal of my thesis is to address immigrant families and womens need for support and councelling and to represent a new working method to meet this need. I have picked up well functioning aspects aswell as points to develop whilst planning similar service elsewhere.
This research is qualitative case study, but also an evaluation done from outsider perspective. I have interviewed five people who have worked in the project and I have also used project diary and other project documents as my reasearch material. The theoretic-methodological frame for this work is social constructionism. I have picked up and created themes from the reasearch material and used theory limited content analysis. By using several small theories I have looked at immigrant families diverse need for services. Using theories also adds up the countability of the study.
Based on my research the teaching home provides easily accessible services that are customer orientated. The strength of the teaching home is it's location in the middle of immigrant crowded suburb, which eases mothers with small children to participate to its activities. Physically teaching home is like any apartment in block of flats. This creates safe environment and enables guiding the clients in residential skills. The role of the workers is to be a companion whose cultural competence helps in creating confidential realtionship between the worker and client. Finnish language is learned through everyday actions. Health and tips how to educate children and guiding immigrants to use services such as daycare, can be seen as a form of preventive child welfare. Similar activies, as are done in teaching home, should be spread around suburbs with large immigrant population. Co-operating with social welfare offices should be developed so that the immigrant families and women would get the support they need to make integration to Finnish society possible.
